The Biblical Archaeology Society (BAS) was founded in 1974 as a nonprofit, nondenominational, educational organization dedicated to the dissemination of information about archaeology in the Bible lands. BAS educates the public about archaeology and the Bible through its quarterly magazine, Biblical Archaeology Review, an award-winning website, tours and seminars, and books and DVDs. The Bulletin of the American Schools of Oriental Research (BASOR) is a leader among peer-reviewed academic journals of the ancient Near East. For nearly a century, since 1919 when William F. Albright originally founded it as the Bulletin of the American School of Oriental Research in Jerusalem, BASOR has served as a highly respected interdisciplinary English-language forum for scholars worldwide in subject areas such as archaeology, art, anthropology, archaeometry, bioarchaeology, archaeozoology, biblical studies, history, literature, philology, geography, and epigraphy.

Journal for the Study of the Old Testament offers the best in current, peer-reviewed scholarship on the Old Testament across a range of critical methodologies. Many original and creative approaches to the interpretation of the Old Testament literature and cognate fields of inquiry are pioneered in JSOT, which showcases the work of both new and established scholars.

MAARAV, A Journal for the Study of the Northwest Semitic Languages and Literatures,
is devoted to the rigorous, prudent treatment of the corpus of Northwest Semitic texts.
Its articles have a strong linguistic, philological and literary emphasis, although manuscripts on history,
archaeology, religion and culture will be seriously considered, particularly if they have a strong textual interest.

Old Testament Abstracts features abstracts for journal articles, monographs, multi-author works and software related to Old Testament studies. Both the article and book abstracts are organized by themes, such as the Ancient Near East, literary forms, and biblical theology. Established in 1978, the journal provides summaries and bibliographical information of articles and books written in all major languages. Old Testament Abstracts is published by The Catholic Biblical Association of America.

The Biblical Review is the organ of the French Biblical and Archaeological School of Jerusalem. She publishes articles, columns, reviews, reports, on the study of the Bible and related disciplines: texts and inscriptions, history, geography, languages ​​of the ancient Near East, apocrypha, rabbinism, archeology of Palestine and neighboring countries (with illustrations), biblical, patristic and hermeneutical theology.

When the Scandinavian Journal of the Old Testament was first published in 1987, it was expected to become the principal forum of Scandinavian Old Testament research. Reality has surpassed the expectations of the founders, as Scandinavian Journal of the Old Testament is rapidly becoming one of the major outlets of international Old Testament scholarship, although without losing its specific Scandinavian character.

Contributions by leading scholars have in recent years changed the scholarly understanding of the history of Israel. Such contributions have often been published in the Scandinavian Journal of the Old Testament, including the editor’s “The Old Testament—A Hellenistic Book?” (Scandinavian Journal of the Old Testament 7, 1993) that opened up for a totally new direction in the discussion about the origins of the Old Testament. In this capacity the Scandinavian Journal of the Old Testament has become one of the principal outlets of the so-called “Copenhagen School of Old Testament Studies.” But its scope has never been limited to only one position of Old Testament studies, and articles by scholars from all parts of the world and representing almost every position as to Old Testament studies are published in the Scandinavian Journal of Old Testament Studies.

Vetus Testamentum is a leading journal covering all aspects of Old Testament study. It includes articles on history, literature, religion and theology, text, versions, language, and the bearing on the Old Testament of archaeology and the study of the Ancient Near East. Since 1951 the journals has been generally recognized to be indispensable for scholarly work on the Old Testament.

Issues contain fascinating articles in English, French and German, a detailed book review section as well as extensive review articles.

The Zeitschrift für die Alttestamentliche Wissenschaft, which is published in four issues of 160 pages each plus supplements, has been the leading international and interconfessional periodical in the field of research in the Old Testament und Early Judaism for over one hundred years. Open to various ways of posing the questions of scholarship, the journal features high quality contributions in English, German, and French. Through its review of periodicals and books, it provides fast and reliable information concerning new publications in the field.

Biblical Theology Bulletin is a distinctive, peer-reviewed, quarterly journal containing articles and reviews written by experts in biblical and theological studies. The editors select articles that provide insights derived from critical biblical scholarship, culture-awareness, and thoughtful reflection on meanings of import for scholars of Bible and religion, religious educators, clergy, and those engaged with social studies in religion, inter-religious studies, and the praxis of biblical religion today.

Concordia Theological Quarterly is a peer-reviewed academic journal of theology published for the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod by the faculty of Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana. It continues The Springfielder and is published in January, April, July, and October each year.

Horizons in Biblical Theology publishes articles that address all aspects of the relationship between biblical studies and theology. This includes traditional historical readings of biblical texts, thematic studies within biblical texts and theology, explorations of methodology and hermeneutics, and even readings from within confessional traditions.
The journal welcomes both technical articles that address historical and linguistic issues in biblical texts and theoretical articles that address innovations and difficulties in theological reading of texts. Contributions are peer-reviewed.

The Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society commenced publication in 1958 as the Bulletin of the Evangelical Theological Society. The first issue was just 20 pages in length and contained only one article: "The Infallibility of Scripture and Evangelical Progress," by Ned B. Stonehouse (Westminster Theological Seminary). This article was Stonehouse's presidential address at the society's annual meeting, when only 47 persons were in attendance.

From that small beginning, under the editorship of Steven Barabas (Wheaton College), the journal has grown remarkably in size, and the contributions are recognized worldwide for their penetrating scholarship and insightful handling of the Scriptures. BETS became JETS in 1969 with volume 12. When JETS celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1982 under the editorship of Ronald Youngblood, each issue was 128 pages in length. In 2007, the readers of JETS received four handsome, gold-colored issues for the 50th anniversary volume, each of which contains 224 pages of astute refereed articles and scholarly reviews. Dr. Dorian Coover-Cox (Dallas Theological Seminary) now serves as the editor.

Critical biblical scholarship as developed and defined since the mid-eighteenth century has played a significant and welcome role in pressing us to take biblical texts seriously on their own terms and diverse contexts. With the postmodern turn, additional questions have surfaced—including the theological and ecclesial location of biblical interpretation, the significance of canon and creed for biblical hermeneutics, the historical reception of biblical texts, and other more pointedly theological interests. How might we engage interpretively with the Christian Scriptures so as to hear and attend to God's voice? The Journal of Theological Interpretation aims to serve these agendas.

Founded in 1899, The Journal of Theological Studies crosses the entire range of theological research, scholarship and interpretation. Ancient and modern texts, inscriptions, and documents that have not before appeared in type are also reproduced.

Scottish Journal of Theology is an international journal of systematic, historical and biblical theology. Since its foundation in 1948, it has become established as one of the world's leading theological journals. As well as publishing original research articles, many issues contain an article review consisting of an extensive review of a recent book, with a reply from the author. Scottish Journal of Theology provides an ecumenical forum for debate, and engages in extensive reviewing of theological and biblical literature.

The articles found in this issue of the Southwestern Journal of Theology are authored around the theme of “The Doctrine of Humankind.”

“What does it mean to be human?” This question was asked nearly two decades ago at a major bioethics conference by Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary alumnus C. Ben Mitchell. The way he framed the conversation was profound. Realizing the importance of this question and the various implications for our lives and ministries, we have invited a group of thoughtful theologians and ethicists to help us think carefully and wisely about these challenging issues.

Themelios [the-mel-i-os - “foundation”] is an international, evangelical, peer-reviewed theological journal that expounds and defends the historic Christian faith. Its primary audience is theological students and pastors, though scholars read it as well.

It began in 1975 and was operated by RTSF/UCCF in the UK, and it became a digital journal operated by The Gospel Coalition in 2008. The editorial team draws participants from across the globe as editors, essayists, and reviewers.

Themelios is published three times a year online at The Gospel Coalition website in PDF and HTML, and may be purchased in digital format with Logos Bible Software and in print with Wipf and Stock. It is also accessible in full-text through the ATLA Religion Database.

Founded and sponsored by the Society of Jesus in the United States of America, Theological Studies is a Catholic scholarly journal that serves the Church and its mission by promoting a deeper understanding of the Christian faith through the publication of research in theological disciplines.

The Westminster Theological Journal (WTJ), published semi-annually, is one of America’s premier conservative theological journals, specializing in all aspects of theology, church history, and biblical interpretation. The journal’s inaugural issue appeared in 1938, making it one of America’s oldest continuous running theological journals. The journal exists to further Reformed theological scholarship and through it to serve the ministers and members of Presbyterian and Reformed churches. Each issue includes a number of scholarly articles and book reviews by seminary faculty, scholars active in their fields, and graduate students.

The journal was “founded upon the conviction that the Holy Scriptures are the word of God and the only infallible rule of faith and practice, and that the system of belief commonly designated the Reformed Faith is the purest and most consistent formulation and expression of the system of truth set forth in the Holy Scriptures” (WTJ, 1938, vol. 1, p.1). The journal's editors are appointed by the faculty of Westminster Theological Seminary, and it has the purpose of publishing scholarly work that defends and advances understanding of the Bible's teaching and its implications for the larger world.

The journal adheres to standard practices in publication ethics and publication malpractice. The decision to publish an article will be based on the paper's importance, originality and clarity, validity and relevance to the Journal's scope.
