Defining the Research Question

  1. Read the assignment in the syllabus carefully.
    • Note the number of pages and sources required.
    • Note any required resources, such as journal articles, commentaries, and monographs.** 
    • ** A monograph is another name for a book that is not a compilation of distinct essays. 
  2. Define a manageable question to research
    • Start reading to survey the topic if it is not provided in the syllabus.
    • Make it specific enough to answer in the number of pages allowed.
    • You may need to revise as you research.
