Policies of the Denver Seminary Library: Policy Directory

Books may be check out anytime during library hours. Periodicals and Reference books are not available for check out, and no more than 26 books may be check out at any one time. Students may renew their checked out books one time by accessing their record through the Sign In button in the online catalog or by request. However, if another student has placed a hold on the same book, renewal will not be possible. If a book is needed for Reserve, the library may recall the book immediately. Students in possession of books needed for Reserve must return the book by the date requested or be subject to a fine of $1.00 per day.

Students are requested to report any loss or damage of library materials to library staff promptly so the matter can be resolved in a timely manner.

Please contact the library or call 303.762.6962 or 303.762.6964 if you are unable to access the databases. If you are unable to access your my.densem account, contact the Seminary helpdesk. Graduates can email the library for alumni database access.

All patrons of the Library have access to online resources when in the Library Building.

Denver Seminary students must have a current Denver Seminary Photo ID card in order to check out library materials. Using another student's ID card for any purpose, including checking out library material, is prohibited.

ID cards can be obtained free-of-charge at the Library front desk.

New students should obtain their ID card at the beginning of their first semester. Returning students must renew their library privileges each semester, which can be accomplished by presenting their Denver Seminary Photo ID to the library circulation desk staff.

For the preservation of books and computers, food should not be brought into the library; however, beverages in covered containers are allowed.

The Library’s primary mission is to provide academic support and meet the research needs of Denver Seminary students and faculty. However, the general public is also welcome to use the facilities and access library resources while in the building, as long as the resources are not in use by or reserved for members of the Seminary community.

All users are expected to comply with all other policies dealing with the use of Library resources and facilities. Non-compliance may result in the loss of library privileges or banishment from campus.

Denver Seminary utilizes the following means of communication in the event of an emergency or a school closure:

1. A notice on the Seminary's main webpage: www.denverseminary.edu
2. Broadcast emails and text messages: notices will be emailed and/or texted to all staff and faculty to their Seminary accounts and students via their DMail account through the Rave Emergency System. Students can manage their Rave account at Rave Emergency System.
3. Television: CBS4, ABC7, NBC9, and FOX31
4. Radio: 850 KQA

In order to maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning, conversations should be brief and kept as quiet as possible. Students who wish to study together are encouraged to reserve one of the library conference rooms for group study.

The Library houses a small computer area available for use by students. Wireless printing is also available in the library at .10 cents per copy (black and white) and .15 cents per copy (color) to students who have balances on their student printing/copy account.

Students may also use copy machines in the library at a cost of .10 cents per page (black and white) and .15 cents per page (color) or may scan and email material at no charge. Students should contact library staff for assistance with copier problems or questions.

Off campus access to online databases or online journals is authenticated by entering your Student ID#@my.densem.edu in the username box and your MyDenSem password in the password box on the Denver Seminary EZproxy page. You will see this page after choosing the database or journal from the Library Database page, the online catalog or a link on Moodle. Access to the Digital Theological Library requires your student ID# for authentication. For detailed instructions, click here.

The Reference staff can provide assistance in the use of DTL, ATLAReligion, and other research tools. Print and video tutorials for the databases are also posted on the library webpage. The Ready Reference page (reached through a link on the Library website) provides links to the online catalogs of other local academic libraries. Carrel lockers are available for use (by semester) upon submission and approval of an application form and payment of a $20.00 deposit. If available, lockers may be used on a daily or weekly basis upon payment of a $5 or $10 deposit. Library books in carrel lockers that have not been checked out will result in immediate termination of the lease and loss of locker deposit.

Lost and Found is located at the Circulation Desk in the Library (303-762-6962). Items will be held for two weeks, and containers holding food or beverages will be discarded. Some items, such as cell phones, laptops, car keys, wallets, or purses may be kept by Denver Seminary Security (303-961-1184) so one can verify 24/7 that those items are securely locked up for safekeeping until claimed.

Groups of students can make reservation at the circulation desk to use library conference rooms for up to two hours. The reservation will be cancelled if the reserving party has not picked up the room key at the circulation desk within fifteen minutes of the appointment.
